This is a direction normally monitored by web professionals with ever-increasing interest, taking it apart in an effort to understand what makes Google tick and how search functions, with all its nuts and bolts.
We have all witnessed the power this small search box generates, especially when it stops working. It alone has the power to bring the world to a halt. But you do not have to go through a Google blackout to witness the influence this tiny little area of input exerts over the network and, eventually, our lives. If you run a website, and you’ve made your way up in search rankings, you likely know what we’re talking about.
The fact that anyone with a web presence typically holds their breath whenever Google tries to push changes to its organic search results does not come as a surprise. Google is primarily a software engineering organization that seeks to solve all its problems on a wide scale. And, let us be frank, solving the problems Google wants to solve solely with human intervention is virtually impossible.

Algorithms are like recipes in layman’s terms, a step-by-step series of instructions in a specific order aimed at completing a particular task or solving a problem.
The probability of an algorithm achieving the anticipated outcome is indirectly proportional to the complexity of the assignment it needs to complete.

Including how it is built to function; how it is technically stable and consistent; how it manages the process of communicating to other servers and services; all the integrations and front-end rendering.
But, alone, all the technological bells and whistles, where and where value does not exist, do not generate value. They add to value, and at their best make any secret value shine. And that is why, from a product viewpoint, one should work on the technical details, but also consider looking at their website.
Your Website As A Product
From a product perspective, when we look at a website, we should try to consider the experience users have on it. And, finally, what value we have to stand out from the competition.
You should ask the question “If your website disappeared from the web today, what would your users miss, that they would not find in any of the websites of your competitor?” to make this less ethereal and more concrete. The first thing you need to do if your website has been hit with a manual action is to consider what actions triggered it.
That typically means that you should first and foremost have a detailed understanding of the Technical and Quality Guidelines of Google, and test your website against them. It is easy to let yourself get caught up simultaneously juggling all the steps and pieces of knowledge.
You also want to keep the number of times you file a request for reconsideration to a minimum. Do not behave like you are playing trial and mistake. Just collect all of the data, do a clean sweep on your website, and fix it all. Send a request for reconsideration then, and only then.
Recovering From Manual Actions
There is the misconception that after the manual actions have been revoked, you can revert to the same level if you are hit with a manual action and you lose traffic and rankings. This may not have been further from the facts. A manual action, you see, aims at eliminating unequal control.
So, after a cleanup and the manual action was lifted, it would not make sense to return to the same organic results, otherwise it would probably mean you were not benefiting from something that breached the Quality Guidelines.
